Pick-up screen does not fit in oil pan
I am trying to fit a Spectre oil pan on my 1982 Chevy Corvette. I am having a problem with the oil pick-up fitting properly. The stock pick-up on this vehicle is a Eckler #53631 and was wondering if I should be replacing it with a Eckler #53632 so that it clears the windage shelf and center in the dropped-down portion of the pan. The Spectre oil pan is passenger-side dip stick to accommodate my configuration.
It is impossible to install the oil pan to the block because of the absence of adequate clearance for the pick-up screen and, if it could be inserted in the "well" of the pan, the pick-up screen would be against the sloping portion of the pan drop-down...causing me to suspect inadequate clearance to retrieve oil from pan.

I do not have original pan to compare dimensions, but this pan's bolt holes line up perfectly and the gasket fits properly.
I was going to attach pictures to illustrate my problem, but, being a rookie, I do not know how to attach pictures.

I would check with spectre on a matching oil pump pickup that goes with that pan. If the pan depth or configuration is not as original, mixing replacment parts from 2 makers will cause the pan not to fit as the pan hits the pickup....and or will be at the wrong depth.
The rectangle box pickups, used on aftermarket pans are more user friendly as far as position and clearance are concerned. Clearancing for windage trays is a common accurance.

I had the same issue when I changed pans on my 81. I bought a shorter tube and it fits right in the sump where it belongs, I have had no issues since. Some say to spot weld the tube onto the pump, mine fit extremely tight so I did not.

I just encountered that same problem. My solution was a new oil pump and pickup. The old pickup had a straight tube about 6 inches long, the new one is "U" shaped. It fits in the sump.

my ray 76 the U-tube you mentioned is what Eckler's #53632 offers. However, I found one on ebay for $9.00 and should arrive at my location on or about the 21st. So with nothing to do until then, I think I will go hit a few golf ***** this weekend instead of climbing under my vettee...nice change of pace.

See my own thread on a Hamburgers pan and pickup: also pickup issues. Solved by having the supplied pickup modified at a machineshop.
