Default Edelbrock 2701 Clearence question 1969 Corvette

I plan to replace my intake and carb on my stock 350, 300 hp 69 vette. The recommended replacement is the 2101 intake with the 1406 carb which is guaranteed to fit.

I am looking at the combo kit Edelbrock 27014 which has the 2701 and 14064 with Endurashine finish. I am just concerned about the clearance and wonder if anyone is running these on an early C3.

If the 2701 won't fit I will probably just go with the 2101 with natural finish.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Why dont you just go with the 2101 and your stock Quadrajet. There is no performance gain with the Edelbrock carbs.

My car is for cruising not so much performance anyway. I don't really expect any performance gains, the QJ still runs okay but the throttle sticks occasionally which can be scary when running 70 in traffic! I believe it is due to wear in the primary shaft. That can be fixed but parts are getting hard to get and expensive even for the few who specialize on them. Repair cost would be close to that of a new Edelbrock 600 CFM with electric choke.

Several other reasons:
My intake is the (smiley face) style with the hot gas bypass which is a problem to start with, 69 was the last year for that.

New carbs are designed around current fuels especially beneficial for the Ethanol crap which is my only choice here.

If I bit the bullet now when it needs reworked next kits should be available and it will be an inexpensive and easy job I can do.

Also you may not be able to buy a replacement carb in another 10 years or 15 years as we try to force older cars off the roads.

I will have to store the QJ and intake, so this adds to the pile of parts stored but have plenty of room in the attic :-)

Hopefully someone has tested this, would really like to know before pulling the trigger :-)

Thanks,
Kenneth

dont necessarily follow your logic about the current carb and manifold but the 2701 and 27014 are same manifold with a square bore carburetor mounting pad and different finish. Edelbrock site gives no warning for this combo for corvettes but does for others. The 2101 has a spread bore carburetor mounting pad and also has no warning. The 1406 carburetor is a square bore carb so it will mount on the 2701 and 27014. One other thing, the 1406 may require some work on the fuel feed line and the air cleaner.

I appreciate it, the 2101 works for the QJ or Edelbrock 1400 series carbs, it has both spread and square bore bolt patterns. Edelbrock doesn't offer the 2101 in a combo kit but do offer the 2701 in a kit, part # 20214 which includes the 27014 intake and 14064 carb.

The kit price is not much more than the separate items in standard finish so would like to go that route if it would fit. Fuel lines mods are no problem, it the original or drop style breather would work.

Thanks,
Kenneth

Here is the current set up in my 69. It is the Edelbrock air gap intake with the perma-star finish, Q-jet carb, drop base aftermarket filter housing, 3 in. filter, 1/4 in. gasket, LT-1 hood and custom made hold down bolt, no wing nut here.

That looks great :-) I would think the LT-1 hood would have plenty of clearance. Guess I really need to check the height on the stock manifold. The front easy but the back is hard to get at.

I have the original stock 69 hood and really want to go with the EDL-20214. Would sure hate to get and find it doesn't fit with minor mods to the breather.

Thanks for the pics, makes me want to setup even more!

Thanks. I have posted these pictures before. This a comparison of 4 aluminum manifolds including the one on my car.

The Edelbrock RPM is used as the standard and the figures you see on the board in front show how much lower each is from there.
Note that the air gap is the performer and not the performer RPM air gap.

I use a loose wad of aluminum foil on top of the air cleaner to determin clearances between the hood and cleaner cover.

Sorry for the slight Hi-Jack but...
Where did you get the spacers for the headers? The ones that go between the head and header flange.
I need something like that to get my sidepipes away from the rocker on the pass. side.
Thanks!

I made those. They are 1/2 in aluminum.

The pics are very helpful and I was thinking about Play Doh to check clearance but like aluminum foil better, great tip!

I have 2701 in my 350/350 1969, and still I have 30mm at the firewall, 15mm at the sides and 20mm in the front to spare.
I had the same thought as you, and I went for 2701, but I could have gone for 7101, 7104, 7501 or 7616 (airgap)

Merry x-mas to you also.....
Regards from Denmark,
John

Hey John, that is great news! I am really anixious to get it in and installed, it will really change the looks under the hood. I stuck the old QJ back on until the new stuff arrives.

I will post pictures once installed, the next thing will be replacing the TH400 with a T700R4. The fun never ends with one of these babies!

You can get a drop base air cleaner base. I did, and ran a 2 (or 2 1/2"?, can't remember which) K &N filter for additional clearance on my 68 L-79. Have an old Edelbrok CJ-3 aluminum manifold with an Edelbrock 1406 carb. Original small block hood on car. Can send you part number for filter if you need it. Rich rwmnc@optonline.net

Yes I had std. factory air filer/cleaner and #350/350 1969 carburetor. (now I have 2701, EZ-EFI + std. factory air cleaner/filter)
What I did was. Mount the 2701 + the carburetor and then the air cleaner. Then I took (just for fun) some a my son's model clay and put it in the "4 corners" of the air cleaner, and closed the hood. And that gave me the above mm to spare.

But please do the same, just to be sure, I don't know if there is any difference in the "hight" of the engine.
