Valve Covers, Which side breather and PCV
Hello Guys,
I have a 1970 small block with air. I have noticed that various people have their PCV, oil fill and breather on different locations on their valve covers and on different sides.
On which valve cover should the PCV to the carb be?
On which cover should the breather be on?
Also, are the PCV and breather located towards the front of the car on the valve cover, or near the firewall?
Thank You,
Rich

the breather pipe is on passenger side towards back. The pcv is on driver side towards front.

Hi Rich,
On early 70s sb cars I believe the crankcase breather was on the passenger's side valve cover, towards the rear. The pvc was on the front of the driver's side valve cover, with the oil filler cap to the rear.
Regards,
Alan

I have the original ribbed valve covers with the cross flag emblem.
Should the cross flag emblem be on the passenger side valve cover near the front of the car?
Just want to sure.

Rich

I have those also but cannt picture the emblem. Werent the 2 descriptions above sufficient to figure out placement? It would be logical to be on passenger side since the PCV occupies the drivers side front. There is a picture at the end of this link except they replaced the pipe with a cap on the passenger side.

Hi Mel,
Yes, the descriptions above are sufficient to figure out placement. I just wanted to make sure. Maybe you can tell me this. Why do I see so many cars with different orientations to the above. It would seem to me it would be standard on all small block cars.
Thanks,
Rich

From the factory yes, but they are interchangeable and sometimes people take things apart and put them back slightly differently over many years and many owners.
