Default 1976 Side Exhaust

Fighter Pilots:

After spending a few hours on my back ripping out my old rusted cat system, I have been touched by the Corvette gods. They told me to go for the side exhaust I always wanted.

Has anyone added the side exhaust to the 1976 (75, 77, etc...)?
Anything I should know before proceeding?

I am thinking about this kit from Corvette Central as I like the look.
SIDE EXHAUST KIT - 327 / 350 WITH ALUMINIZED PIPES AND FIBERGLASS COVERS. From Corvette Central

Thanks!!

Installed PAINTED hookers I bought from Summit......no major issues installing except the drivers side tube may need adjusted. My door sometimes hits it and from what I have read, the tabs need to be bent. As of right now I am running with no baffle/muffler and its sounds raw as hell....but could get very annoying on longer trips.

I too have the Hooker SS sidepipes with the straight through 2 1/2" baffles. Awesome sound but loud. Bought mine from PerformanceParts.com. Great service and no shipping charges except for a $20 handling fee in Canada - UNBEATABLE!!!

U17,
I'm thinking of purchasing the same air cleaner assembly. How is the quality/fit? Great looking engine!

Hi Scotty,
The one issue I can remember people talking about is that sometimes the front third of the muffler and head pipe hangs down below the fiberglass cover.
I think you'd be wise to do some test fitting to make sure the pipes and covers end up where you want them, and give the appearance you want.
Happy New Year!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan.
I wasn't going to do this.
However, My dad's 1969 rag had these and I really like the look, performance and sound. After cleaning the underneath of everything to do with exhaust I can't see hanging a bunch of rust collecting steel under my baby again.

I gotta lead on a set of used pipes, hopefully it works out.

Well, bought the chambered side pipes from Allen's in Indiana, complete with the fiberglass covers. Talked to "DOC" Mike Allen, really nice guy. I can't wait until they arrive!! Anyone out there have chambered sides on a SB. Happy, not happy??

I'm in the process of putting the same system, w/ factory covers, on my L-46 SBC. The guys from Allen's were great. I will let you know about the sound once they are on.

Same here, I also was looking at this air cleaner. Is that the small one or the large one. I seen two different sizes in the catalog.

I have been considering that exact setup for my 82. Please take lots of pictures and let us know how they sound and how you like them.

My pleasure Craig. We almost moved to Fairhope this past Summer. My business partner talked me out of it in the end. However, my kids and I truly loved the area surrounding Mobile Bay and you are lucky to live there!! We will be visiting when we can.

Yes, we certainly consider ourselves blessed to be living here. We moved here from Kodiak, Alaska this past August, and we love the area. The weather has been great and the people are very friendly. Let us know if you are going to be in the area.

Looking forward to seeing all your pics and hearing how you like the setup. I have been looking at the fiberglass covers from ACI, Ecklers, etc., so I will be curious to see who makes the ones Allen's sells. I am also really curious to see what the chambered side exhaust set up looks like for the C3, and if it completely fits under the covers. From my understanding these pipes are similar to a stock C2 sidepipe set up, but made to fit the C3. They didn't have any pics of it on the Allen's website, just text, so curious to see if they have C2 or C3 exhaust tips on them too.

Thanks again!

Craig

Hi,
For me the question with the chambered side exhaust is do they have the round mid year exhaust tip, or the square 69 style tip? I believe for a few years they just had the round tip.

Alan

Scotty; I'm curious why you choose the chambered side pipes as opposed to the traditional '69 style?

Mike Allen doesn't show the chambered style for the C3's on his web site but does offer them on their Ebay store.

Are you getting the 2 piece design or did you ask for them to be 1 piece?

Mike

Looks like you could just put a propeller on the back of that and fly it around the neighborhood!

Mike:
Why the chambered? Well, I want to wake my stuffy neighbors, scare wildlife and put my father in-law's 57' Chevy to sleep!! Check this link to see his car, he coated his floor and they put it on this web-site:
http://legacyindustrial.net/cart/

It's also a little cleaner, I have seen the muffler version poke out from under the covers, so I think this will help a bit.

I didn't ask about the one/two piece deal. I would imagine it will come in two pieces for freight reasons. If it's in two pieces I will will weld it solid anyway and paint it black.

Lastly, because I have a SB with ram's horns it won't be super loud , according to Allen's, so why not give her all she's got.
