Default Question Of The Day For 1980 Owners Only.....Need Help...

In judging 1980 Corvettes at various NCRS shows I keep coming across something that I cannot tell what it does or where it goes-seems not to matter if the car is a 4spd car, has redefog, L-48 or L-82. Here is the question: On SOME 1980's there is a single red wire that comes off of the battery and goes to a junction box with a single stud with like "heat diffuser fins". It is black in color. The red wire exits the battery storage box at the lower left part of the box. The wire goes towards the differential over the frame. Also has a "cadmium" cover too with that black plastic "corrugated cover" of some sort as it exits the storage box. What, what does this red wire power? What does it do? Where does it go? I'm on my 3rd lifeline and could use a little help!!!

I think I have a partial answer for you. In the "Corvette 1966-82 Shop Manual" thay have an '82 wiring diagram that shows the wire and juction you describe. But the component it terminates to is unlabeled. It's drawn in the "engine compartment" schematic and has a black, red and a 2 pin connector with a red and black/pink wires on it. In that manual it's pages 16-16 and 16-23. Hope that helps.

My 80 has the wire, but can find no mention of it in the shop manual. If I get the chance over the next few days, I'll try to track it down

82's have the junction block to attach the ram power lead for the ecm to, I think the wire you mention is for either the antenna or a CB or something, I'll take a look when I see an 80

I think it goes to the remote CB/stereo in the 80-82 vette. It is a conditioned line that has no ignition or motor interference noise
