1981 transmission into 1977?
I have a lead on a 1981 Corvette TH350... is this a lockup converter unit, and if so what might be required to transplant it into my '77? Thanks!

If you don't want to spend the money on a lock up controller, you can install the transmission and just not utilize the lock up feature also.

That's true....as long as the '77 trans has the same TV cable setup as the '81. You will lose some operating efficiency and run just a bit warmer, because of the ~300 rpm slippage from not having the lockup clutch operational. But, that's about the only loss. But, if you are changing out the trans, why would you not go to an overdrive unit (200-4R or 700R4)?
Making the swap as you described, you are [essentially] ending up with the same thing you now have.

That's true 7T1... except I have no transmission at all presently and the TH350C is priced "attractively". I just want to ride.. and there are many many other areas where the $ for a modern lockup trans could otherwise be spent. I still need an A/C condenser, some u-joints, an exhaust system of some sort, some heat and sound insulation, a battery, a 4 wheel alignment, much of the interior... etc. I'm nearly three years into this build, broke, frustrated and ready to "get-r-done" somehow this season. I wish to give myself a birthday present before September 26 this year and drive the thing to work on or before that date.

I understand. Just didn't want you to miss an 'opportunity', if it could work for you. Hope the swap goes well.
