Default Water Wetter

I have heard that if you run Water Wetter with a mix of 75% water and 25% coolant that it will cool better then a standard mix of 50/50 water/coolant. Can anyone confirm?

Tough to say for sure, because I didn't do scientific before/after tests, but I use it and my engine runs cool. Theory is that the water contacts the metal surfaces more completely 'cause it's got soap in it. Well, maybe that's an oversimplification, but on the right track.

Water Wetter is very good stuff. I use it (and used) on all my C3 Vettes...
It will definetely cool down the coolant temp - even more when reducing the antifreeze... Going from 50/50 without Water Wetter to 75/25 with Water Wetter you should be able to reduce your coolant temperature by at least 20 degrees. On my 69 (sold) I was able to reduce the coolant temp by 30+ degrees. I was running pure water with Water Wetter...

Is this a :troll post?

I would think that you would know that just the 75% water 25% anitfreeze is going to cool better than a 50/50 mix. The more water, the better the cooling. I put water wetter in mine and it cools very well, but I don't know if it was thatt or the 85% water/15% antifreeze mix I put in.

Tom73, I think you are jerking our chain. :smash:

Snake oil, Snake Oil, I am running at 180F with a 180 Stat If your cooling system is at factory specs you should have no cooling problems. Get you rad cleaned out at a rad shop and Do Not paint the core on your Rad Just leave the thin black coating the rad shop aplies You can paint the tanks

79 mako is right. I did not change my coolant/water ratio (25/75) and added water wetter. There was little/no difference. AT the time, I was running a little warm, and it didn't help much/if any. Just my 2cents.

Besides, 12 bucks is steep for a little bottle of pink fluid.

Tom73,
I tried it and did NOT see a difference, NOT one degree, and I run 100% water. I personally think it`s nothing more than expensive waterpump lube. I also think if the people who claim it helped were totally honest they might admit they changed something in addition to adding Water Wetter.

redvetracr is right about gimicks. I had and have a water over temp problem. Red73 uses none water coolant. It costs about $200 to fill your system. I use 25% anti-freeze and distilled water with high powered aluminum anti corrosive. Then a 1000 hp or 600 ci BeCool radiator with electric fans and and a 10K ss mechanical and a stage III Stewart pump

My own thought is that it can't hurt to use it. Pep Boys now sells a different brand of Wet Water, which is only $10.00 a bottle. :yesnod:

One last comment. If you run water use distilled to reduce the amount of minerals that bond to the internals of the cooling system. Who knows what your tap water has for mineral content. Run a mix of at least 80/20 so you have the anticorrisive and lubing properties of anti freeze. This mix will cool better than 50/50.

The bottom line is the cooling system (have a top notch pump), mixture, timing etc. all have to be up to snuff.

Water Wetter - make your own decision, it won't hurt but I never saw any real gains.

No :troll Serious question. Not for my C3's but I have a C4 that is having problems with cooling in traffice and stop and go situations. Have gotten a Stewart water pump that I am in the process of installing. I had tried Water Wetter before but with a 50/50 mix and did not see any measurable differences. So was wondering how it would do with a 75/25 mix.

Antifreeze is not a coolant. It is an anti-FREEZE. It keeps your engine from freezing in the winter. Before I changed my radiator my engine always ran hot (in the 220+ range). I added two bottles and it ran about 20 deg cooler. I removed the water/antifreeze mix and added water only with two bottles of water wetter. The change? 30+ deg cooler. I finally changed the choked radiator for an alum one and with water only and two bottles of wetter it never overheats. It might not overheat now with the new rad but I'm hooked on the stuff for what it did with the old radiator in it. It has a w/p lube in it. What it does is take the air bubbles out of the water thus allowing the water to be 'wetter' (less air, more water cooling capability). I can find it lots of places for $8 or less a bottle. Heck, antifreeze costs almost as much. Since my car is garaged in the winter antifreeze is not needed. I use the Red Line product.

OK. I guess you were serious. :bb It's just when I see this subject brought up by someone who's been around as long as you, I get a little suspicious.

I'd go as much distilled water and as little anti-freeze as possible. Here in Florida I'm running 85% water / 15% anti-freeze (recommended by Redline) and one bottle of Water Wetter. According to Redline, the less anti-freeze you use, the better their product works. As I stated above, I poured the Water Wetter in at the same time I changed the Water/Anti-freeze mix, I also installed new radiator seals and thermostat at the same time, so I have no scientific proof that it did a damn thing.
