Default Flywheel and clutch questions for my auto to manual swap

Hi,

I'm swapping a Richmond 5 speed into my stock '81 and trying to find a good replacement flywheel and clutch set. I was originally going to order a billet steel flywheel but I read you need to use a performance clutch set with them, and I can't really justify spending $400+ for a 190hp engine that's not going to be raced.

So I think my best choice is to order a GM flywheel, part number 3991469 from work, about $180, but what clutch to use? I can get a stock AC Delco clutch for around $120, will it work with that flywheel? I'd rather go with GM replacement parts since I can get them at work at a discount.

Does anyone have any experience with that flywheel? AC Delco sells a replacement flywheel for $100 less, but I'm afraid of chinese parts, especially flywheels.

By far the simplest solution for a stock engine would be a stock flywheel and clutch for an 81 corvette.
You can probably find a Sachs flywheel at Oreileys for ~$80 and clutch for ~$100.
The things you have to make sure are compatible are the 168 tooth flywheel and bell housing, and the clutch and trans spline count, 10 vs 26.

Went with a billet flywheel for peace of mind and I don't want to do this job twice. So far no driveline vibrations or clutch chatter. Also used a kevlar composite clutch disc that should last a long time.Watch those flywheel and pressure plate bolts they are special bolts, don't substitute use good quality hardware and torque to specs. The swap was well worth it for sure....Good luck...

Who's flywheel did you use? Have you run it yet?

I was under the impression the stock clutch was 26 spline? Or, maybe that is for a '78.
