There is always the possibility that its a real Lt-1 Car. There has to be because its stuff like this that makes our sport interesting. 69 was an odd year for GM, the year of the big Strike. The 1970's were delayed, and in some cases parts ran out and 1970 parts were used. I understand that there were some 69 Z-28's that rolled off the line with Lt-1's. Its believed that before the Strike L-88's have Closed Chamber Heads and after Strike Cars have Open Chamber Heads, yet there are 074 Open Chamber Heads with 1968 Date Codes. Today we like to have rule books on what is right and what is wrong, only problem is the rule book wasn't in the AIM book when they built them. I would be interested if this car has a very late build date? I will admit that I have a reason to believe in these odd cars, as my next project car is a 69 as well. It was built a week before the Strike, Hard top only, Radio Delete, Heater Delete even though all 68 and newer cars were mandated to have a defroster, and yes its got the 430HP Console.

No, because of the 10 week UAW strike. GM continued making 69's until the end of December 1969...the last '69 was made Friday 12-19-69 and was serial #38,762.
Actually, I don't see why a 1994 printing date for Bizocco's book makes it 'dated.' Although he did promise to write a 1968 Vette guidebook.
I bought my '69 off a Chevy dealer's used car lot in '72. It had an Edelbrock C4B intake (aftermarket version of the aluminum LT-1 intake made by Winters Foundry) and 780 Holley carb...both fit under the base hood using a drop base air cleaner. Solid lifter cam in a CE replacement block...the car was drag raced as what other reason to have 4:88 rear and the front wide oval tires pumped to 50psi?

Yes and No. The LT-1 might be the real deal, but no 69s had LT-1s so any 69 with an LT-1 (real or built) is a 69 without the original engine. The two known 69s with had LT-1s installed and mentioned in Mr. Bizzoco's book both left St. Louis without LT-1s. The two engines were prepped by GM Warren and shipped to California where they were installed in two 69s already on the lot. These cars were used for the long lead press review concerning the LT-1 which, by that time, was to debut during the 1970 model year.
Due to the strike, 1969 production continued into December 1969. 1970 production began early in January, 1970. The 70 models went on sale mid February, 1970.

I used to pick up a magazine called Car Life, I think I still have the issue. They did a Corvette comparison in 1969 with every engine/transmission combination possible, including a side bar on the ZL1. When it came to an LT-1 they had to resort to a dealer built one because Chevy never made it in 1969.

A good informational thread. Here is a little more trivia.
When the LT-1's were first produced in 1970, the LT-1 stripes were not of equal width. Each pair of stripes had a wide and narrow stripe running in parallel.
Sometime in mid 1970, the stripes were changed to be of equal width, and continued to be this way in '71 & '72.
If the '69 LT-1 in question has equal width stripes, then that's another clue it's likely not original.
