Default BBC-Edelbrock Perf RPM heads

Hi Everyone.

I snagged a set of 60559 Edelbrock heads for my 540 BB at a really good price. So, as I was gathering info for the install, I ran across a warning on the Summit website about spark plug-to-piston clearance.

SRP said that they make special pistons to match the various aftermarket heads. I explained that the engine is together with their 212161 low dome pistons. They said I could make a small clearance cut if necessary.

Can't seem to find an email for Edelbroch tech help.

Anyone out there have experience with using these heads? How about with the SRP 212161 pistons?

Thanks,

Langg

As long as it's truly a "low dome" it's fine. I'm running a small 8cc dome on my 454 with Edelbrock heads and the plugs clear without having to notch anything.

I'd bolt a head on without head gasket, install a projected tip plug and turn the crank. if the plug stays intact you're fine.

I was asking the same question of Edelbrock, on a little different combination. I have a '69 L71 with fairly large domed L2268F pistons (36.3 dome volume) in a stock 106.9CC closed chamber head. The Edelbrock heads are 118cc open style chambers.

Edelbrock responded, "I looked up the pistons you are using and you shouldn't have any issues. Even though we categorize our cylinder head as a semi open chamber, you still want to run a closed chamber style of piston. A 118cc head with the L2268F pistons will put you around 10.1 cr."

Not sure if this helps you any, but thorght I'd share.

Ralph.

Those are the 10cc domes & yes, they will work just fine w/o any modification. My 540 has Victor JR heads which are the Chapman Racing CNC ported version of the RPM's with the 112cc chambers & they have plenty of clearance. The folks at JE can verify this for you, but it says they fit right on their website.

BTW, the RPM heads may be a bit small for a 540 depending on your hp expectations. 600 hp is about the upper end of what they are good for without some porting work.

Thanks all
What it says on the websitefor these pistons is that they will accomodate Edelbrock STD design heads. Whatever they are. I know they are a little small but they are better than the iron on now. I would really like to have X/Ts but they are like 3x what I paid for these.
