Default How do you store your cylinder heads?

If you have a not so tight garage like me how would you store a set of heads. I would hate for them to get rusted or even worse, locked up do to improper storage. Please feel free with your advice.

Spray them with WD-40 and bag them

If they're nicely-done heads, I'd put them on the coffee table in my living room as a conversation piece. Short of that, give them a light spray of WD40 and put them in plastic bags, tied off securely. Most machine shops have special heavy duty plastic bags for bagging heads for this very purpose - I'm sure they'll sell you a pair for a very modest price.

Like most exposed metal parts, I'd wrap them in oil soaked shipping paper, and put them in plastic bags. You should be good with this.

Thank you guys. I wonder if the wife will go for the coffee table idea? She is a good sport. I wanted to ask because now that I have been playing with my cars again I dug out a used camshaft that I really liked years ago only to find the journals really pitted. I guess it's ruined so I don't want to ruin my heads and other parts.

Put in storage bags with some desiccant, twist tie and you're done.

If you think this is an original idea, there's actually a company that markets coffee tables using engine blocks as bases. Couldn't say if they're actual cast iron engine blocks, or molded plastic jobs, but you get the idea. Summit racing, has a division called Hot Rod, that has all kinds of stuff like this. Got some buddies, Chevy small block engine Christmas tree ornaments a few years back.

I once had a polished 8-71 supercharger w/Enderle "bird catcher" as well as a Crower/McKay "pipe organ" injector proudly on display in my den. Had them there when I met my last wife (now ex). Still have the Crower, but do miss the blower (take that how you prefer).

Back on topic, tho already answered, WD40 (aka "magic elixir" in many shops) and bagging is defintely the way to go.

I have 2 Coys C5 chrome wheels that were out of spec. The 18in. is under a piece of glass for a coffee table and the 17in. is now a clock hanging on my wall

My original L48 heads were oiled and put in plastic bags 15 years ago, should be ready to go if I want to rip up some pavement
