72 Corvette 454. How to by pass the heater Core?, I will replace it in the spring.
1972 Corvette 454 with Factory AC. Heater Core is leaking bad.
I removed the passenger side Egg crate molding from the fender,
I can see where the 2 heater hoses connect to the heater box, if I want to just by pass the heater core is it OK to disconnect the 2 hoses from the heater core and hook them up together with a copper line with 2 hose clamps? I do not need to use the heater, once the snow comes I will put the Corvette away.
I do have Factory Air conditioning.
Please advise
Vic

Provided you can get to the hose clamps. Seeing them and actually getting to them are two different things.
Expect the hoses to be very, very stubborn coming off the core pipes.
You can also cap the lines on the engine. A little easier to reach.
Good luck.

Forget the hoses azt the heater core, very hard to get to and wet!!!
Drain the radiator, pull or cut the hoses on the intake and the water pump, remove the fittings and go to the hardware store and get two plugs one for the 5/8" in the intake and one for the 3/4" on the water pump. Put some sealant on the plugs, refill the radiator, and get the air out and wait till spring. When spring comes you do have to remove the hoses at the core pipes under the car. Get a drain pan and some newspaper as it is wet.
from very recent experience a car with A/C you get to the core from inside the car on the passengers side. The best advice I was given is to take pictures as you go and keep removing till you get the heater box removed. Good luck as it is a job!

just connected the hoses together on my 74 vette with 454 but the car is parked for winter (i'm in saskatchewan) and I dont like the idea of eliminating the hoses and putting plugs in the block I like to keep as much fluid moving as possible. High temp is an issue with this car

run a hose from the water pump fitting to the intake fitting, make a loop, you're probably going to replace the heater hoses when you do the core, so cut one of them to fit, done deal , 5 minutes, zip tie the old hose ends out of the way

in this picture you can see the two heater hose fittings a little better, you remove the bottom one , disconnect or in your case cut the top one at about the same location as that valve, bend it in a loop down to the lower one and slide it on , clamp it , done ...5 minutes
hope this helps
