Best gas tank for future Mass Flo EFI conversion
Hi all, I'm working on my 1970 L46 coupe to get it up and running again. I have a new Summit 600 CFM carb and new fuel pump with return line. The PO wasn't using the return line, which resulted in vapor lock. I went to hook back up the return line at the tank today, and found the tank has been replaced with one that has no return line provision. I guess that's why the return line was unused...
Anyway, I would like to get a tank that will let me use a return line, as it is important to get the car running again, and I'll use it later for the Mass Flo-EFI kit. I have an external electric fuel pump and regulator that I will use for the EFI system when I install it next year. This will be a street driven car only.
So my question is - do I order a new tank, and if so, what year? Should I use my existing tank, which is otherwise OK, and modify it to accept a return line?
Thanks for your help!

If the tank you presently have is in good shape, then you could just use a fuel cell bulkhead adapter fitting. You just drill a hole in the tank (of course after first draining all the gas and getting the fuel vapors out of the tank) and bolt the fitting in place. Summit sells them in different sizes, this is what a -6an one looks like:

The other option is a new tank; a 70-74 base engine tank will have the return nipple.
Here is one at Corvette Central:

Thanks for everyone's replies. I ended up buying a replacement 24 gallon tank off eBay, $160 from Tanks Inc. It's a nice piece, and as it turns out my old one was starting to rust inside anyway. Taking the original out wasn't too bad, and I ended up pressure washing everything down there and blasting/cleaning the parts. Here's the new tank. I used Eastwood's Zinc tank coating to give it an even finish. I highly recommend replacing vs. restoring an old tank. It was cheap peace of mind and there's so many parts back there I would have had a hard time getting to or cleaning up with the tank in place. Here's the new tank, with the correct return line nipple on the pass side.
