Default 1982 corvette collector edition cross-fire

Having problems with 1982 corvette collector edition cross-fire injection idling too fast. Starts out at 1600 RPM's then only comes back down to around 1000 RPM's after warming up a little. Any suggestions where to start?

There are a lot of answers to that question. If its never been tampered with and the engine light is not on my guess is its the plenum gasket. thats the big one under the plate the TBI's (carbs) sit on. Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the lid bolts for tighteness.

I can tell you how to fix just about anything on this engine. From experience I find either information is omitted or the vehicle has been tampered with unknow to the current owner. It would really help if you could post three or four pictures of the motor. Take the cleaner of and take pictures of the both TBI's from the top. the back of each TBI (where hoses go in) and the linkage near the front TBI.

Drive it like you mean it! They go into a learn mode when they sit a long time or the battery goes dead. Drive it for 50- 100 miles and it should idle down if there's no other problems

As Jim stated .... likely a vacuum leak .... all vac lines should be checked starting at the intake .... there are quite a few .... so take your time ..... be certain to check all associated connections ....

more times then not ... you'll find the cure for high idle ........

As Jim Said:

If its never been tampered with and the engine light is not on my guess is its the plenum gasket.
I had the same issue with my '82. I found the bolts on the right rear lose. Tighting them up solved the problem for a couple of months but wound up having to replace the gasket.

Start the car, get a 3' length of rubber or pvc hose. With one end in your ear, stick the other end near the base of each throttle body. If there is a vacuum leak, you will hear a noticeable whistle. Also check other vacuum connections the same way.
