Default Silver Anniversary Edition

I have been looking to buy a Vette (78 Pace Car or 82CE). But I have seen a lot of ads for “1978 Silver Anniversary Edition” or “25th Anniversary Edition” Then they go on to say “Red” or whatever color.

I was under the assumption (maybe mistakenly) that just like the Pace Car, there was only one Exterior/Interior color scheme for the “Silver Anniversary Edition” and it was the Silver/Gray Exterior. So are all 78’s “Silver Anniversary Edition’s”? And do all 78’s have the 25th Anniversary emblem on them?

Dave

I have a 78. It is not the silver anniversery. It is just a plain old 78 (But I love it just as much).

The Silver Anniversery "model" was a 2 tone paint job. Silver and dark grey.

There was only one combination of interior/exterior for the Silver Anniversery "model"

My 78 though does have the 25th anniversery badging. I think all 78's had that.

There is a chance that the car is a Silver Anniversery "model" that has been painted. (Which is the case for at least one that I have seen). Or it is just a plain old 78.

Hope this helps

chris.

This is the what I have read on 78's.

All 1978's are the 25th anniversary models. It is the 25 year for the Corvette and all had the 25th anniversary badge on the nose and fuel tank door.

Then they made a 1978 Silver Anniversary Model which was Light Silver over Dark Gray. They only had one color interior (to my knowledge) and it was silver/gray also. It can be verified if it is a true SA by the Serial Number. If you have the VIN, send it to me, and I will find out.

Then there was the 1978 Pace Car, it is Black over Silver and has the new style seats (79-82 style) and I think the interior was silver only.

Are you sure that they were only available with an oyster interior? I thought you could get black too.

You're correct that all 78's had the 25th Anniversary emblems. However the B2Z Silver Anniversary paint option was not tied to the VIN. Almost a third of all 78's produced were painted the SA colors. You could get a number of interior colors, but the most popular were oyster and black. To be sure it was a B2Z car, check the trim tag. The paint code is 13U/07M.

Greg A. nailed this one -

Yes all 78's are 25th anniversary cars.
RPO B2Z was the special Silver Anniversary paint. (this is an attractive combination but not all that rare and in general not a Value Adder, at least compared to a Pace car) B2Z was a paint job, that is the only difference between it and any other 78.

My car will soon be saying goodbye to it's Silver Anniversary paint and interior to make room for black interior and dark purple paint. No offense to those 'oyster' lovers out there, but the white interior was just not for me. It was all worn out anyway. It's kind of cool to say that it had the special silver paint, though.
Half way done with the interior! Woo hoo!

Hi,

My 1978 Corvette is Black on black
Trim Code 19 / 192 - Black exterior / Black Leather interior
I have the three 25 th Anniversary emblems on the car.
One up front, one on the gas door and one on the stearing wheel

I was under the impression that 1978 had three models.
1. the coupe (like mine)
2. Silver Aniversary (two tone paint)
3.Pace Car

My 78 Silver Anniversary Edition "B2Z paint code 07M/13U" came with Saffron Leather interior. From my understanding these cars came with the sport mirrors, power locks and a couple of other things standard. They made a bunch of them and they sure are pretty.. :yesnod:

Not too question anyone, but my 78 has the correct color combo on the trim tag with a Mahogany interior which also is indicated on the trim tag. It is a darker red. I have seen others here with the red interior and SA paint also. I have been told mine is rare with the SA paint and interior color but I take it with a grain of salt till I see numbers. I will still drive it either way. What I was told was only 4,000 cars total in 78 had Mahogany interior so I wonder just how many with the SA paint????

My SA has red interior. The trim tag shows Trim 722 and 13U 07M Paint.

According to the Idaho Corvette Page http://www.idavette.net/facts/78.htm there were 40,274 base coupes built, and 15,283 had the B2Z silver anniversary paint option. (about 38% of the coupes)

I believe the interior color was independent of the paint option.

Add Blue Leather to the mix also. There weren't many, but I have seen several. There were also several that had the Oyster Cloth interior (Check out Slickman's)

Mine has a dark blue interior and white paint. If memory
serves me, the tag has a light blue exterior paint code. So
mine has been painted (and rather poorly!). Sometime in
the next year, it will be a different color.
