OK, well after a couple of hours of f---ing with installing a new hurst shifter, and not being able to get my 73 year old fingers in to get the shifter bolted up to the plate, i decided to make a little more room. So I cut a slot or small section out of the counsel area, so that I can not only install the two bolts, but if the stock shifter was in place, insert the tool to adjust the gate. I made a nice piece of fiberglass to insert in its place and it is now a removable access plate. I have never seen such a **** poor design in anything as this. No room to do anything. And I have three lifts in my shop, makes it easier to get under, but the rest is no piece of cake.
So much for my venting, hope everyone had a safe and Happy Easter.

NOT the easiest job - I did it with my '68 BB a few years ago - the result was well worth the effort though

Well today is a new day and I shall take is a couple of cold ones and approach the install with a positive attitude. I think!

Articulated fingers 1/4" diameter and 12" long may help

Well, after a couple of cold ones, and the wife in the car to hold the shifter in place, I finally got the bottom bolt in. The top bolt not to bad after wards. Thanks for the words of encouragement, now just waiting for Hurst to send the 3-4 shifting arm so I can get this completed. Yup, longer fingers or a longer arm is needed.

Hurst update. You were correct, this thing shifts like a dream, what a difference.

Replacing stock engine mounts with 'poly' mounts can further improve gear shifts as the driveline becomes far more rigid

Hi Tony,
I put a Hurst shifter on my 64 327/300 4speed Impala..... in my driveway.... WITHOUT lifting the car!
I guess the fact that it was 1964, AND I was 20, had something to do with it.

Yes. Many procedures on an old Corvette are a PITA. What we have is seven pounds of $%^& in a five pound bag.
