oil filter reccomendations

I run a regular Wix filter on mine. Purolator, wix, bosch, denso, etc... are all fine. The only filters I don't run are Fram. Stay away from them and you will be fine.

"Racing" filters often don't filter as well (higher micron rating). They do this to increase flow rates. That is not something you want in a street car.
Yes, Napa gold and Wix is the same thing. The NAPA filter even says "wix" in small letters on the box. Nice thing is the NAPA gold is usually a little less than the Wix branded version.

i posted some pictures a while back of the cut open fram filter from my vette and after 4 months it showed no degrading of the filter or the much maligned cardboard ends.the adhesive that bonds it together was intact.i change my oil every 4 months and run only synthetic oil.my intrigue uses a cartridge type filter and that showed no signs of degrading either.spend your money where you wish.

The old AC #- PF-35. If you want to and it will fit, a PF-832. Same as the -35 except it's 2x longer. Holds 2 quarts.

I read lots of negatives on Fram here though, anybody ever read about any actual tests or data?

Lots of tests/comparisons run on another "oil" forum. Basically in a nutshell the better ones to use are those that are constructed out of quality components and consistently pleated filter mediums.
From my recollection the good ones were PureOne by Purolator, Mobil1 Extended Performance and K&N/ Amsoil. If I remember correctly as well, the last 3 mentioned were made by the same company and just had different window treatments put on the exterior of the product.
The Wix/Napa performed "well" and were superior to the Fram which rated poorly in all regards (even their high end line) but were not in the same league as the ones mentioned earlier. They also didn't cost $12 filter though too.

LOL...I have been using FRAM for over 15 years on my '86 el Camino, '82 corvette and '08 Nissan with no issues...ever! I like the black rubberized material on the bottom of the can for easy removal and, since I replace the oil every 3K and don't run my cars in extreme conditions, I don't think it matters what filter, just that you have a filter and it is changed along with the oil on a regular basis (but I am not in marketing).

I cut open a couple of FRAM oil filters to see how they really stack-up. Here's what I found:
FRAM ULTRA (made in USA)
The new one that finally has metal end caps on the filter element. This one just looked cheap, with cheap looking components and sloppy workmanship, even down to cheap looking painting. But, I didn’t see anything that might adversely affect its ability to function.
FRAM TOUGH GUARD (made in USA)
The one with the cardboard filter element end caps. This one looked “REALLY” cheaply made with poor workmanship, even the filter element wasn’t glued fully to those cardboard end caps. The worst filter I’ve ever seen.

I have to laugh at all of the oil and filter postings concerning the ole chevy's. These engines are cheap compared to our current production daily drivers. But to go along with the questions. We use either WIX, or Bosch.
