Default SRIII project

Hi guys. I have been working on a SRIII chassis for my 1970. The running gear is done and just test fit the body on the car this weekend. It has a gen 1 small block 427 dynoed at 603 hp with a T56 magnum 6 speed and C4 suspension from a 93 ZR1 and coil overs in each corner. I have appreciate all the help and advise I have received from everyone on the forum and thought I would take the time to show the progress. I hope you enjoy.

Nice setup! Looks like you need to flare the body. What rear ratio are you running with the T56?

Great setup, pls get someone to video your first ride once you get it altogether. Your grin might take a few weeks to wear off!

Yes I will be adding L88 flares to cover the tires. The rear end ratio is 410.

That looks awesome. I have always wanted to do something similar to mine. Its going to be a blast when you get it done. Are you going to do AC? That is the one thing I wish I would have done with mine.

No I do not intend to do ac. This will be a road legal car but will see plenty of time on the road race tracks. I can always use my wife's 82 vette for trips that require ac. She is nice enough to allow me to driver hers too.

You're going to love that suspension under your C3.

Keep the updates coming.

IMHO, that is a perfect method to dispose of a pile of dead Presidents. That is one sexy looking beast that is being developed.

Thanks to Eddie 70 also, on posting the images so that we can all see the progress.

To the OP: what a beautiful example of great engineering. Keep up the fine work and thanks for sharing. You have new fans to cheer you on...

Should have narrowed the chassis and mini tubbed the body to tuck the wheels in the stock 1/4's

Thanks guys for all the input. I like the L88 style flares and intended to go that route at the beginning of the build. SRIII does offer narrowing the frame to keep the tires under the original 1/4's but I wanted the wider stance. Just my opinion.

Looking good Rob let me know when you need a hand with anything.
PS. My p/s pump is in, just fighting the return hose on the back of the pump.

I thought I was going to help you put that back in. Just found out I am going to be home this Sunday, so was going to check if that would work for you. Let me know if you still want help, but it sounds like you have it wipped now. Have you tried changing the pressure on it yet?

Very nicely done! Eventually this is my dream except with an ls-x motor... and the march serpentine system looks real sharp, got that one on my vette too

The LS motor is a great motor, I just wanted to go somewhat old school on this one. There is talk around our house of doing a 58 vette for my wife after I finish this one and I would probably go with a LS in that case.

Great set up! Please post photos when the flares are installed. You may need an offset shifter for the T56. I have a similar motor and transmission in my 65 and an offset shifter was required for everything to line up properly.

That was one of the reasons I wanted to test fit the body to the chassis was to check the trani shifter location. It is just a bit high and to the right. I should be able to modify the shifter to make it come up in the stock location pretty easily. I was told when I purchased the trani (T56 magnum) that they didn't offer an offset shifter any more.
I have just a couple little things to do before I lift the body off so I can spray the underside with sound deadener and then set the body for the final time. Once that is done, I can get it running and then install the roll bar or cage, haven't decided on which one yet. Any ideas or pics would be great of what others have done. At that point I will start on the body work. Mostly the fender flares and paint.
I will try to keep up with posting pics as the progress continues.
