Default 1981 carb, idle mixture screws, base setting?

The idle mixture screws on my carb were set at 4 3/4 turns on one and just about 1 on the other.

Whats a good place to start on an 81 and is the adjustment procedure the same for other years considering computer in circuit?

Cheers.

Typically on a Quad 3 turns out from seated should be good. You dont have a shop manual?

Most carbs are turn the screws all the way in and back them out 2-1/2 turns for a stock motor. 3 to 3-1/2 turns for a performance built motor. This should get you started.

Adjusting after that is a personal preference but I go for the the highest idle when the motor is hot them turn it in until the motor just starts to slow down.

3 1/3 - 3 1/4 screws
4 1/8 on the air valve.

What does 4 1/8 mean on the air valve?

If you go much past 1 turn preload on the air valve tension you will bend the spring. 7/8 is a good starting point, loosen 1/8 turn at a time from there until you bog then tighten back to last good setting.

not the air door spring.

CCC has an air valve in the carb horn.

Thanks, I usually hear that referred to as the idle air bleed and the "air doors" referred to as secondary air valves.

Thanks Guys.... Lanny and calwldlife I really must read more before I post!
Weather has been really good so it was sort radiatore, sort carb or cruise....

Just so happens today was a local sports cars meet with cake and coffee so, the carb and the radiator were put on hold!

Here in the UK, our weather is really unpredictable so when its good you have to cruise.
