Default HELP, Replacing rear strut rods.

I am trying to replace rear strut rods but the lower shock bracket that holds the shock and rod is frozen solid. I've tried everything but cutting it with a saws all and I don't have a torch. Will a saws all work to cut the shock bracket?? Anyone have the same problem replacing yours?

I've taken two sets apart with little difficulty. I took the crown nut off and turned it around so that the solid end was flush with the threaded end of the mount. A couple of hits with a hammer and it popped right out. There is also a special "nut" made specifically for that purpose. It is a longer solid nut that threads onto the mount to give a more solid surface to beat on if your mounts are stubborn.

I just did my '72. First soaked the assembly with PCBlaster for several days and tapped it several times. Finally, as Casey Jones outlined, I reversted the nut and belted it out.

The tool did not work for me. I cut them with an air cut off tool, saw will probably work too.

I ended up cutting the end of my rods to get them off. I used a cut off wheel outlined in this link. I cut mine while on the car.

what i have done is weld a flange nut to a sacrificial impact socket. liberally spray shaft with pb blaster then wind the socket/nut onto the shaft leaving about a 1/8" gap. bash with the hammer and back off the socket with each movement of the shaft. keep repeating till she comes out.

Thanks for the help.
I had to cut every thing off. But now it's all going back together. What a learning experience.
