Default 76 Speedometer cable replacement

I need to replace the speedometer cable after a small engine fire? How the heck do you get to the back of the speedometer to get the new cable attached? Thanks

I was able to replace the cable on my '73 by removing the seat and laying on my back with a strap on head lamp to help me see. My '73 speedo cable clips on and I was able to snake my hands and the new cable into position to push it onto the back of the speedometer. Small hands help.

Find the hole, wiggle it and push it straight in

My dash pad is currently out of the car. I see that there is a retaining clip that secures the cable to the speedo head.

Have a look at the AIM manual or other books to see how it connects. Once discovered, access and a re-install will give you success.
