Edelbrock carb with factory air cleaner
Does anyone have an Edelbrock carb model 1406 and use the factory air cleaner? I can`t get the base to clear the fuel inlet. I`m using a banjo fitting on the fuel line, still it doesn`t fit. Do they make a spacer for the top of the carb? Any ideas ? thanks vette715

carb problem
I guess you don`t know what I`m talking about, you cant bang it out with a hammer ,because where it hits is right where the filter element sits. anymore bright ideas? maybe one that's helpful

i used a grinder, with the 4 inch wheel,i wish id had a smaller unit, like maybe a dremel.but i cut a small square notch out ,then used some super strong tape to cover area,,,but you have to put the tape kinda buldging inward so it will seat over the inlet,,worked for me,good luck with it.

I think vette715 means the factory air cleaner from GM. I tried to go with an edelbrock 1406 but could not get the factory drop base to clear. A holley cleared fine. Mine is a 68 in case year matters.

You can get a spacer to slightly raise the aircleaner- I had to raise mine 1/4" with one. Factory drop base air cleaner on a Demon carb. Air cleaner base was hitting the float adjustments.

Melting Slicks
I'm running a Carter carb of the same design as the 1406 with common 14" circular air cleaner. It's a drop base air cleaner. I use about 3-4 air cleaner gaskets together to raise it up just enough to clear the carb unit itself.

Now, it's a 1/2" spacer, so there's a chance that you may end up with the air cleaner touching the hood, but for 3 bucks, it's worth a try.
Here's another bright idea, one that may turn out to be very helpful: Give some thought to toning down the attitude and getting a little bit of a sense of humor, you'll live longer.
