Default PS control valve

I am trying to remove the PS Control valve to rebuild, can someone help me with how to get the ball joint loose and is it possible to replace the ball joint boot?

Thanks!

I believe you need a pickle fork.

Or, you can remove the castle-nut from the ball stud; turn it upside-down and reinstall it on the ball stud while keeping the top surface of that nut just above the end surface of the ball stud.

Now, you can put some kind of sturdy support under the bottom surface of the pittman arm and give the top of that ballstud/nut one helluva whack! If the pittman arm support is solid, the joint should separate.

P.S. You might need to use a tap to chase the threads in that nut when you get done....but if you don't have a pickle fork, well.....

This is what I used. Think I got it at Advance Auto, but might have been Harbor Freight.

2-3 days spent discussing 'what tool to use'...instead of just smacking it loose?

Sometimes i just LOVE your posts

But on a serious note.... during my "restoration" I did not feel comfortable smacking things too hard potentially damaging other parts

Did you rebuild it yourself?

How did it go? What made you decide it needed a rebuild?

The decision was made because I am still waiting for a friend to come look over the car to help me decide how original or not it really is.
I wanted to get the car safe while waiting so I decided rebuild is safe. Oh BTW not to much time to do and saves about $200....
