Car has been fine for years, yesterday all of a sudden I couldn't get it to shift to park and engage the pawl. If I push forward it just stops short of P as though it's hitting something.

there's an adjustment on the shift cable at the trans end on a th400-i assume there is also one on the th350.

Ahaaaaa, discovered the nut that retains the shifting lever to shift shaft had backed off enough to allow the lever to wobble enough that the tranny case interfered with movement to Park!! Tightened it and all is well. Easiest fix in my 30 yr history with the car, it,s a '79 that I totally "juiced" up.
