MSD 6AL Ignition Control with Soft Touch Rev Limiter
Any one have one of these on their car?......Do you like the system? I have a MSD 8365 HEI distributor on my 8T1....I also have a Petronix HEI Flame Thrower System on the 7T9. Will this Ignition Control work on either one....what's the advantage of this system and what plug in module should I be using as a rev limit. Engine is a 383 stroker 435 HP max RPM 5800..... :seeya Cappy

yes i have the msd 6al with msd pro-billet distirbutor and blaster ss coil :
my best purchase for my vette. No problems with start (cold/hot), no problem until 7000 rpm (i don't try much rpm), more power (than my old point distributor), very easy to install : :D

I have had my MSD-6AL for more then 10 years and like it. I have never has a problem with fouled plugs and the rev limited has saved me many times. I regularly bumped up agianst it without a problem. I also have an adjustable rev limiter set under the dash and when someone test drives the car without me it is turned way down. It just plugs into the MSD in place of the regular pill.

I noticed all the responses are from cars originally with points. I wonder if anyone with a factory HEI system has tried an MSD6Al and felt any improvement?

If you have a max of 5800. I'd set it for 5600. To test it slowly in "N" bring up the rpm until you hear it coming on. I have the Crane Cams unit and I adjusted the dial just to see if it worked at 5000. Now I hear it every once in a awhile in first or second gear at my self imposed 7000 rpm.

I have an HEI with the MSD soft touch rev control which is just the rev limiter. Actually, I havn't got around to installing the rev limiter yet.

Last month many were complaining about the MSD system and taked up the Petronics for reliability. Now it is the other way around, I am a few weeks away from purchasing one of these pointless systems and am now totally confused.

I have had my 69 for 12 years now and have tried various ignition components. Now using Mallory Unilite distributor and Jacobs Pro Street and Ultra coil and have found it to be the best combination. I tried the MSD 6A, but did not notice any power increase, but it did idle better. No improvment on power. MSD 6A only works well below 3000 rpm and is only average beyond that.
