GM has a new ZZ5 engine
announced at SEMA, new ZZ5 and zz383 engines. looks like the ZZ5 is going to be around 400hp and come standard with the fast burn heads.

I didn't see any spec.'s on this and I'm curious what the differences are between the ZZ5 and the ZZ430 which is rated at 430 hp/430 ftlbs.
I've got a ZZ430 clone and it cost about 6k with the extras needed.

The 450hp 383 sounds like a good one, drop it in and go with a warranty
Thats plenty of power for most street cars

They redesigned the fast burn heads and are using the blue ls3 valve springs, so maybe a slight can design also. I'm still going to go with a zz4 if I go 350, but definitely like the new zz383 if I go that route

It's still the FastBurn heads, which are basically an early version Vortec - it's a nice upgrade, but doesn't seem to be anything special. Good engine, but the price is pretty darn high for what's there.

Yup... good for the guys who want to cut a check and have a dealer install it, then have a couple years of "worry free" miles.

I don't think that motor will phase out the zz4. The ZZ5 is really no different than the old 385 crate motor except for the blue valve springs.
The zz4 still has standard intake instead of a vortec intake.
also the zz4 has the much more user friendly small "D" exhaust port.
I like the fast burn heads but for various reasons they have never been a slam dunk for me.

You can get a 383 or go the 406ci route for about the same price that will smoke this little 350ci. I am surprised that they even bothered putting out another version when it's not numbers matching and from the outside a 383ci or correct version of a 406ci you wouldn't be able to tell the difference until you hit the happy pedal

yeah it's pretty much a renamed fast burn 385.
I'd still prefer the ZZ4.

The new LS style valve springs are installed , only difference to the early fast burn .
And why they refuse to put the zz430 up for retail sale to anyone and everyone makes no sense to me at all..That 385 motor needs a cam , intake and 1.6 rollers and your now a zz430.
Anyway I may be selling my zz430 clone sooner or later ..
