I need advice with 383 stroker bolt ons- thank you!
All,
I installed my 383 stroker and I need advice. I'd like to replace my rad, carb, water pump, fuel pump, oil pump, and starter. I'm about "sold" on a Dewitt rad with dual fans, but not quite sure about the other bolt ons. I'd like to keep everything mechanical vs. electric and of course I'm trying to stay within budget... any advice is much appreciated!

Looks really nice!
If you put enough information on your build it will help to know what you need, especially in the fuel system. So, full engine build list, gear ratio, convertor stall, etc...

I love my elderbrock water pump .I have seen good results with quickfuel carbs .I like the mini high torque starters .a Mallory 140 fuel pump has worked great for me on all my cars.

I have a stroker with the following items. The dewitt dual fan set up, really happy with this, expensive but worth it. Concept one serpentine pulley belt system, MSD ignition, hedman coated headers, magna flow exhaust. Engine came with edelbrock carb that I had issues with, replaced with Quick Fuel Black Diamond, made a huge difference. Same CFM but way better response among other improvements. MSD dynaforce starter. The concept one pulley system was expensive, in my opinion worth every penny. It comes with edelbrock reverse flow water pump, custom C1 power steering pump and all the necessary brackets and hardware. I plan on keeping this car for my kids, I wanted to do it once and do it right.

First, thank you all for your replies! Second, I’m sorry to say I don’t know all the particulars; I haven’t turned a wrench on my Vette since 2006
After a records check on my differential, I found during its re-build, my carrier was replaced; I don’t have the original serial number which would show me rear axle gear ratio… and I don’t know my converter stall (my engine build did include a replacement converter though). What are the odds the serial number on my new carrier reflect gear ratio?
Transmission: rebuilt TH400 w/ H.P. package.
Headers: Jet Hot coated, Hooker headers w/ 4” collectors/side pipes
Heads: Edelbrock E-TEC-170
Attached: pics of engine parts, and specs
Thanks again!
P.S.
garygnu,
I am researching and pricing parts as I speak. Thank you!
MBC75,
I am blown away, your engine is a work of art! In addition to parts listed, what size is your carb? Which air cleaner do you have? Do you have have an air gab intake? If so, does your stock hood fit? I priced Concept One… thats a lot of pennies! What type of gains come with that price tag, aside from looks?

Hi bmxer23m
Thanks for the compliment, the only thing I need to change is the upper and lower radiator hose. They are not AN lines and that is what I really wanted. In the spring I will take it apart and have the proper An fittings welded to the radiator, water pump and filler neck. I thought I could purchase those items already witht hose fittings but I couldn't get them last spring in tome to have the car ready for summer.
The carb is 750 cfm, no air gap intake, it will not clear the hood. It is an edelbrock performer intake. The air cleaner is Billet Specialties SKU 15327 Small oval cross flags. I have a 3/8 carb gasket/riser. This set up clears the hood with about .75" of room. The concept one system is a really nice set up, I looked at the GM serpentine kit. I think it was around $750 I am sure it would work just as good as the concept one kit. The concept one kit has a billet reservoir included with kit. The GM does not, however I don't think it justifies the huge price difference. You are paying for machining and all aluminum. To me it was worth it, if you don't need that I am sure the GM performance serpentine kit would be fine. I got rid of my engine driven fan, so there is some horsepower gain. I don't know how much, it really does not matter. My car makes way more power than I need When I started all this I wanted that engine power that I never had when I was a kid. Driving the car, occasionally hitting the throttle hard, never fails to make me smile.

There is no sense in creating more blow-by with such large gaps unless you are running large doses of nitrous or boost.

Typical street ring gaps run .004" per inch of bore on the top ring. That would put you at .016". The current trend has also been to run the 2nd ring gap larger than the 1st. Usually on a 4" bore 2nd would be about .020".

I can't see running .026-.028 unless you are running some massive boost (25-30 psi) and a 300 shot to go along with it.

The stupidity of some people is that low rpm means better MPG and motor wear

Hmmm... you know the last thing he said (after building the engine) was that it'll handle nitrous all day... but I never truly intended on running w/ nitrous. Should I be worried? How might this affect performance?
Thanks all!
