The subject car is a 1979 L-82 owned by me moons ago and now owned by my Brother. Ron is the mechanical genius. The work was done last October. The text was prepared by my Brother and commented on by other contributors.

Ahh, memories. Did mine about four years ago.
I read the horror stories about people having to cut the bolts out. I got lucky, mine being a relatively rust free Florida car, sprayed some PB Blaster, and the bolts came right out. Not much difficulty with the shock mounts either.
Had Vansteel rebuild the trailing arms after I got them out.
Vansteel has a reputation for doing great work so hopefully they will last longer than me.
Great writeup with the photos (and tech tips).

Thanks for the replies. It looks like -29C (-20F) tonight and I have a few things to do before tomorrow morning to keep my DD working. This cold is brutal.

Your timing is appreciated....I just removed the entire rear suspension last week for cleaning/rebuilding/painting.

Ive got a trailing arm, differential replacement, suspension rebuild project in my garage right now that is almost done. Like others, I read the horror stories of difficult to remove TA bolts, but got lucky as well.
And another thing...78-79 cars are hot stuff, especially with front and rear spoilers.
