I'm hoping to put my cam in, and the timing chain on this Mon- Tue. As I'm thinking about this, when the cam sprocket dot is at 6 o'clock and the crank sprocket dot is at 12 o'clock as it would be for a normal chain install, pistons #1 and #6 are at TDC. But as I'm thinking this through #6 is at compression stroke correct???, or am I wrong on this, and #1 is at it's compression stroke.

Thanks

You are correct- dot-to-dot, both 1 and 6 are at TDC. #6 is at TDC on the compression stroke.
Only matters when you get ready to drop the distributor back in.

Thankyou for confirming that. In ref to the distributor yes, and if you wanted to button the motor up on #1 at TDC compression stroke or verify valve train geometry you would have to rotate it CW 360* to have #1 at TDC on compression as your base line to work off of.

Regards
