Default '70 steering column bracket spacer

I am trying to re-install my steering column in '70 vette. There are two small aluminum (I believe) spacers that are epoxied to the steering column bracket (welded to column) that mounts to the underside of dash. Two long bolts go thru these spacers and column bracket to attach the column to the dash. I removed one of the spacers to replace it - the spacer to the right, passenger, side of the column. The mounting 'slot' in the spacer is angled, so getting it mounted in correct orientation will affect the fit. Attached is a picture of a spacer for reference. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the orientation of the spacer on the bracket before I removed it and now don't remember which way it goes. Does anyone have a picture of the right side of the bracket that shows how the spacer should be oriented? thanks, Steve

We called that part a capsule. It is angled. The bracket that is welded to the column jacket is also angled where the capsule slides in place. You should be able to eyeball the capsule from the side so that the upper surface that clamps up into the dash structure is parallel with the centerline of the steering column when you attach it correctly. If you slide the capsule on the opposite (wrong) direction it should be quite noticeable that the top surface of the capsule is not parallel with the column centerline.

Thanks for the reply Jim. Unfortunately I moved the adjustable bracket that goes up underneath the dash. So I am not sure if thats in right place, or if an out of adjustment bracket would affect this.

Does anyone have a side view close up picture of a '70 column (out of the car) showing the capsule on the passenger side of the column? thanks, Steve

Default Mounting capsules/spacers

Where did you get the capsules from? Or did you have to buy the whole mounting bracket?

It turns out those are the same capsules used on most GM cars from that era. I found one at local junkyard.

Thank you, I just need the capsules and can’t find them except if I were to buy the whole bracket. I’ll check local junkyards. Thank you again.
