Default '81 rear pinion seal replacement

is pinion seal replacement on these aluminum diffs the same as 99% of the cast iron GM diffs out there?
measure turning torque, mark the nut, count the threads, recheck turning torque when done? I'm going to be pulling the diff out soon to reseal it, and want to make sure there's nothing special about this one.

Thanks

No, quite different. 80-82 uses pinion shims instead of a crush sleeve. Mark the pinion nut and the pinion. Re-tighten the nut to align the marks. Be sure the shim between the bearing and the flange is there before you put the seal in.

The dana rear end is easier and pretty much fool proof.. (with a emphasis on "pretty much"). We had a customer install it backwards three times before he brought us the car. Yes, the seal can go in backwards but it will also leak... So make sure you have the seal installed the correct way.

Alright Wilcox, you tease... Can you explain/describe correct versus backwards on this seal, so I don't follow your customer's example?
