I have a 70, the four hole gasket pre dates mine. There was an earlier option using the four hole gasket that also required an aluminum gasket to allow exhaust gasses to heat the carb. I would suspect yours requires the hour glass gasket. A thicker or insulating gasket will help in keeping your carb/gas cooler, especially when you switch off the engine.

Run the 1/4" open plenum gasket.

That's a good point, but a stock '72 intake won't be a smiley-face. Which is not to say that somebody may not have installed a '69 manifold... always good to make sure.
