Default Q: MDS Street Fire 8362: vacuum advance plate

Can anyone make sense out of the instructions for setting the vacuum advance on the MSD Street Fire HEI distributor?

I want to get to about 36º of total advance at around 2500-3000 rpm at WOT, and around 52º w/ vacuum advance in light cruise.

The instruction are vague to me. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in "advance"

Paul

Cannot comment on the instructions but your distributor was made in China so be prepared to replace the ignition module with a better one when it fails.

Ah! Figured it out. That diagram (bar chart) was what was throwing me. Useless!!

What it is: 14º initial, + 22º mechanical* (= my desired 36º at WOT), + 16º vacuum (setting w/in C or D) = 52º cruise.

*BTW, that 22º mechanical advance spec is NOWHERE to be found in this POS installation instruction. Had to go online to find it

In a previous life, I used to write tech manuals for industrial applications. IMO, a simple example/illustration would have done wonders. But then, translations (from Chinese? or whatever to English) often loose something in translation, I find.

I was considering this same distributor (MSD 8365), are you saying they're no good? If so, what's better?

Jim
