Default 1979 L82 Dual Snorkle Air Intake Repair

Sure this has been addressed before but can't tell from the pictures...I know I need a new duct, but I can't tell if I need a new 472712 Rh Air Intake Duct Assembly or I need an entirely new fresh air duct with the dual heads. One head is attached. I'm thinking of buying this vette. If it's been run on one duct only (as it appears) should I be wary? Is this an easy fix other than adding 5 hp horsepower and avoiding overheating issues?

This is a 1979 L82
Under the hood looks quite a mess, missing covers, etc.

Check out the pictures.

first time poster, thanks!

You should be able to buy the one air duct assembly like I did. I would not be wary if that is the only issue with the engine. Mine is a 78 L-82 and this picture is from a few years ago but I just pulled the L-82 and completely rebuilt/upgraded-bored .030, new JE forged 9:1 pistons, Howards roller cam .525/.525 lift, Afr 180 65 CC aluminum heads (should have 10:1 compression now), everything else OEM including the intake and stock dual air cleaner.

Thanks JB!! Any idea where I can buy a part like this? Junkyard? Online? is it just a driver side duct and hose? Is it okay to drive for now?

Any number of vendors should have the parts for the cold air OEM dual snorkel cleaner. i bought mine from a vendor that i don't recall-25 years ago-no help there. The only issue with driving the car the way it is is that the air will be hot but still filtered. All good for now.

That flex duct is actually still available from GM. Your local parts guy can order it. Newer ones are a vinyl material instead of the paper one.
472712 is the one you need, one end square other oval. Most of the vendors probably have it too.
I have a never used PAIR if your interested, $40 shipped. If that "paper" one in your pic is in EXCELLENT condition, I'd even swap my pair for that one.

Here's and ebay link(not me) showing the hard duct you need for the pass side.......

FWIW: order the 79 assembly instruction manual (AIM) when you order your ducting. It shows how to install your parts, along with a thousand other things you going to want to know. AIMs are worth their price.
