Default Tire Size 71 Big Block

For a 71 big block, with original (tired) suspension...what would be the best tire size?

Eventually going to rebuild suspension, but not yet.

I want a tire that will look good...fill the wheel wells....but not rub.

Thanks

I put 255/60/15 all around on my 71 LS5. I have a fresh suspension and have no rubbing issues.

Would 245/60 R15's work well?

I had a 70 that had 235/60 R15's on it, and I hated the way it wandered when the road had ruts in it.

I ran a set of 245/60 all around but seemed a little short for the wheel well (at about 26-1/2", also the rears would rub on the e-brake clip if I wasn't careful (before I relocated them)

Tried 275/60 rear 235/70 front, fit no problem but on the stock rim the 275's pulled in so far compared to the 235 front that the white lettering was noticeably closer to the rim and made them look shorter than the front. Would probably look ok black wall out.

Settled with bfg 235/70 all around, no clearance problems, fills the wheel well at 28" with stock size rims and sitting up close to stock height

I went with 22570R15 as well.
They were available, and filled the wheel well with close to a stock look.

Since P255/60R15 tires were factory optional from model year '78 onward on C3s, why avoid that size? They fit, look good, and the cars respond well with tires that size. The diameter is right for the speedo to be reasonably accurate.
I've been running tires that size for decades on my '69 with no problems.

For my 69 BB, I went with BFG Radial T/A 245/60 15 all around on stock rims. Outside edge of tire lines up perfectly with the body, any larger and the tire will stick out. To get the rear ride height to spec with the smaller than stock diameter, I went with the adjustable 8" bolts.

You've got to remember the first c3's like your 69 didn't have the flare at the lower part of the wheel wells though. And if I remember right, the 78+ with the optional wheels had the fenders trimmed (from what I vaguely remember)

All of this is also to be combined with the various worn out mounts, springs, bushings, etc. What fits on mine doesn't always fit on another 72.
