Default Gas tank filler drain hose

Going to replace the hose that drains off water from around the gas filler neck on my 75. Have the new drain hose and checked the Aim and it shows one bolt holding the line in place

What keeps the top on the hose in the rubber catchall tray around the filler neck? Just a force fit? don't see any other clamps etc. Tank is still in the car so working around it.

The old hose drains somewhat but not to my liking, used air comp to blow the line out and ran a small wire down it but still drains very slow.

Mine looked like it had some type of adhesive and a plastic fitting that held it to the rubber tray.

A nipple.. The nipple went in the overflow boot from the top side... then into the hose holding it in place.

The picture in some Assembly manuals show this wrong.

If you have the old hose attached to the boot, I'd bet you still have the old nipple.

Mod.. I've used them over and over and over again.. My guess is it's okay.. But check it before you order.. These cars are expensive enough without spending money on something you don't need. If you do... I've got them..

This is the reason I like dealing with Willcox.
How many vendors would give you advice as this on a potential customer sale?

And if you are replacing this hose, don't forget that there is a long spring inside the hose that the vendors do not include with a replacement hose.

The spring gives the hose some formability so it doesn't flop around.

My wife just asked, isn't that the place where you order your parts from?

Yes, i say.. Willcox..

Last order, they said just get it in town locally, the heater core.. And save on the postage..

OK, just send the heater core air /gasket set, how can one go wrong with a company that..

P/S Hey, you forgot to order the door handle gasket set when you ordered the weather strip gasket kit...... for your car..

Just saying...

I believe the last year for the spring was 1974, 1975-1982 cars didn't use it.

If the hose was tie wrapped down, the internal spring was useless,,,,except that it provided an extra bit of rust if you felt that you just couldn't get enough of it on a C3.

I bought that tube assembly with spring for my 70 coupe. It is impossible to get the spring inside the rubber hose...is there a trick to that??

Put the new tube in today, pretty straight forward. I did notice that the clamp at at the bottom of the hose really crimps it down to a smaller inside dia for drainage, and mine is the original hose/clamp setup. As soon as i loosened the clamp the water started draining.

Curious to see what plugged up the old hose i cut it open.
1. a pretty good sized rock was stuck inside the hose by the bottom clamp.
2. After three strip/repaint jobs in the last 40 years the hose was filled up with sanding material etc.

Grease up about 6 inches of spring, then push inside the hose. Keep greasing up 6 inches as you go. For the last 6 or 8 inches get a long 1/4 or 5/16 bolt(about 6 in) with a nut about an inch from the end. Use this to push the end of the spring in.

The nut will fit inside the hose.

Keep pushing the bolt in a little farther each time and let go to see how far the spring pops out. This way you can get the end of the spring near the end of the hose.

Keep the hose as straight as possible so you don't have to fight bends.
