Default C3 hydraulic clutch conversions / firewall flex

Who is using a hydraulic clutch in there '79 corvette? Have you had any issues with firewall flex or cracking? Is there a better bracket out there besides the one that most vendors are using? Any help will be appreciated.

I would not use a Hyd Clutch set up if You plan on using an old school stiff Springed Clutch for this very reason, Firewall Flex. However most modern Clutch's are not as stiff as they used to be and if You need that much holding power then go to a Twin Disc. If you use the search feature there is a lot of info on this from me and many others.

I'm using a American Powertrain hyd. clutch kit for 3 years now and never experienced any problems what so ever. The feel of the clutch is superb and FAR better than the mechanical linkage.

I don't see any firewall movement with my T56 swap, hydraulics from a LT1 Camaro. The master is very close to the pedal box, I don't think it has much effect on the firewall.

Can't edit on phone. there is a steel re-inforcement plate where the master will mount.

We use a pre-fabricated firewall bracket, seal and backing plate as shown. The firewall gets sandwiched in between.

I'm not aware of flex issues on C3 but we only use diaphragm pressure plates.

Hey guys thanks for your information. I was curious as to who was using hydraulics and the pros and cons. I have a automatic '79 which I would like to go stick with. I will have to thinks about it for a while. Thanks again all.

Hey Jeff.
Do you sell that 3 pc bracket setup separately from the kit that has the master cyl in it?
If so, how much + shipping to 30607?
Need one for a 75 that is being converted to a T56.

Dennis,

We can sell those pieces separately. I'm at Holley LS Fest but you can call 844-609-8187 and speak with Ben about those parts.

Are you using a Wilwood master cylinder? That's what it is designed for.

It is not. C1/C2 do require a stiffener which is provided in our kits.

Here is my 1978 corvette conversion Th350 auto to T56 Magnum 6 speed. Mine was done before a complete kit like SST offers.

Parts sourced from a couple of vendors.

Also since the original install I switched to a twin disc to get a much lighter pedal feel.
