Default Timing Gear Set

Any advantages of advancing the timing chain 4 degrees while changing the chain on a bone stock 1978 Vette?

Yeah I meant advancing the cam, you said there is not really any advantage to doing so.

It will give you a lot more low end torque. With a stock cam it will feel like a diesel and rev like one too. 4000 would be max for power. If you had a hot cam with a lot of duration, advancing the cam will help drivability. And idle.

You've already done the hard part...might as well slip in a real cam!
