Engine coolant drain plugs
Heya
I'm planning a intake change next week. To minimise the mess I would like to drain most of the coolant. The driver's side plug comes out easy but the passenger side one is just not accessible without removing the headers and thats the last thing I want to do.
Will draining the radiator and the block from that one plug get the level in the block low enough so it's below the manifold?
Thanks,
Nick

Yes. You shouldn't have to take either block drain out to get the water level low enough.

Thanks Reelav8r. Drained from the radiator, broke petcock (just the wing part luckely) and still got a good shower from the engine block drain but manifold is removed without spilling coolant in the lifter valley (woohoo)

Not that you can use this method now, but what I do to avoid pulling the block plugs is to use a hand-held vacuum pump. I remove the thermostat housing and run a hose down into the head and pump the coolant down on both sides.

Draining the antifreeze is always fun. Stuff gets everywhere.

what is it with that crap , no matter what you do antifreeze goes everywhere! you could put a kiddie pool under the car and it would still get on the floor.

I'll let you know when the weed has disappeared from the driveway. I tried to go 'ecological' about it but my catch can was too small
