Pictures From The Track
My dad happened to sneak down to the track and was hiding in the crowd so he snapped a few pictures.
Here is a picture of my buddy Denny running his Mustang down at the track. This is the Mustang with the 514ci big block that has run a best of 11.51 @ 126mph on 275/40/17 drag radials. I'm not a Ford guy, but this Mustang is wicked.
Here's me getting ready to make my first pass.
I think he's scared :D. I doubt he could hear his car running, what with my open headers and all.
Here's Denny launching.
Here's me cutting my best 60' to date (1.98) and then losing traction shortly thereafter. I spun through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear put me sideways.
Yep, you read it right 13.967 @ 85mph. After I went sideways when I hit 3rd gear and got out of the "groove" I shifted into 4th and went half throttle the rest of the way....still beat the Mustang time wise and to the finish line :D.
Here's me running the Camaro. The dude beat me by .15 with the reaction time and cut a .2 better 60'. I thought I was done, right around the 1/8 I chased him down and beat him to the finish line.
Here are my time slips for the night:
1st Run
Reaction Time: .691
60': 1.984
330': 5.427
1/8: 8.562
MPH: 73.60
1000': 11.45
1/4: 13.967
MPH: 84.03
2nd Run
Reaction Time: .760
60': 2.248
330': 5.882
1/8: 8.847
MPH: 83.82
1000': 11.341
1/4: 13.427
MPH: 108.87
The first run was horrid. The second run was slightly better, 1st and 2nd went up in smoke but I got lucky and third gear bit. The car was breaking up really bad around 5500RPMs and I had flames coming out of my passenger side pipe only. I got home and further inspected things. I pulled the #2 plug wire and it came right off. I had the rubber boot on the plug, but I didn't have the terminal snapped on to the plug. This solved my "flames out the passenger side pipe" problem. It was still breaking up on top end though. I messed with the timing (too far advanced) and she happily revvs to 6500RPMs.
I just purchased a 4.10 rear end off of a fellow Corvette Forum member. I think I'm going to try to get 1 more trip to the track before I install the rear end. To solve the traction problem, I'm going to get a pair of Mickey Thompson 28x11.5x15 ET Streets. I plan on babying it out of the hole, so as to not shock the drivetrain. I just want to get rid of the spinning between gear shifts.
It's a good thing the ZO6 did not show up, because he'd have handed me my butt. I think with the tires and gears, I should have a pretty decent 1/4 mile car.

Cool Bence, the 4.11's will help, so will some traction. I am taking mine to the track for the first time next month.

That's just so cool!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could see (and hear) ya run.
Keep on tuning and working to get everything right. Have you considered offset arms so you could run 10" wheels and some wide soft rubber? If I had your car, I'd want to make sure it could hook-up on the street . . . just incase. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Inferno-Vette:
It could have been one. I don't know, the only way I can tell the difference between the GT and the V6 is by the exhaust (dual vs. single)....and as you may have guessed, I was never behind him to tell :D.
69 Ratt:
The 4.10s should be fun....highway driving is going to be limited to about 60mph to keep the RPMs around or below 3000. Gas mileage should be pretty horrid with the new gears. All in all though, it should be a nice kick in the pants when I smack the gas down....and when I go to fill up :D.
74-Roadster:
I'm just going to run the ET Streets on the street. I never have it out in the rain anymore (for obvious reasons). While I have the rear end out, I'm going to get new u-joints all around, driveshaft loop, halfshaft loops.
By the way, I got pulled over before I went to the track. I drove through a local town (there were some good looking ladies walking around). So I make one pass, and am ready to leave and this cop car pulls out in front of me. He gets the red light so I shut my car off and coasted up behind him. The light goes green and he gets going up the road a little bit so I fired the engine back up. The cop car pulls to the side of the road so I had no choice but to drive by. Once I get by he pulls back out and starts tailgating me (I knew I was going to get pulled over). I was almost out of town and he flipped on the lights. I pulled over and he did the usual license and registration. After messing around on his computer for a while he came back up and starting asking questions :). He's like "do you have mufflers on this car?" I was like "yeah." He was like "where are they located?" I said "inside the side tubes." Then he asked me "if I installed the side pipes?" I told him "they were installed by the previous owner and I did everything I could to quiet it down." He said if it had been after 10:00 he would have sited me for disorderly conduct. He told me to "try to keep it quiet" and let me go. I guess it could have been worse, I could have gotten a ticket. I thanked him and went on my way.

Nice pics! :) and good job! I give you credit for just backing off when things didnt go right and crusing thru at 85 mph. (Did you read about the guy who tried to stay with it and drove his C5 into the wall? )
One thing tho, if traction is such a big problem now, dont you want to try stickier tires first before you swap in a higher rear gear? MJ

Re: Pictures From The Track (Corzvette69)
Good Job!
Keep a good record of your trap speed mphs, as this will be a good indication of how your mods are affecting your horsepower.
Once you get good control over your beast, you are definately gonna be hard to beat! Keep up the good work! Corvettes are gonna be feared in your neck of the woods.

Great job Bence, looks like your getting the beast dialed in some. I'm not sure you need the gears if your having a traction problem 1-3 gears, I'd get some better tires and start there first :yesnod: . Keep us posted ;) .

Have you installed a line lock yet? guys like beach bum really heat up their ET Streets to get consistant 1.7 sixties. With slicks I'm a consistant 1.7 and street 315/35/17 are always in the 2.0-2.1

MJ:
It wasn't worth it for me to stay in it, once you get out of the "groove" at the track it's best to let off and wait for the next run. Otherwise, things like what you described about the C5 hitting the wall could happen. I'm going to do the rear end and the Mickey Thompsons at the same time. I'll probably take the 'Vette back to the track this Thursday now that it is running better. I expect traction (or lack thereof) to be the same. I want to see if de-jetting the carburetor and the Strip Dominator affect my MPH any.
Aaron:
The Mustang is the real deal that's for sure. He is currently running 315/40/17s on the back with 10" Cobra-R rims. He has slicks sitting at home that he is waiting to mount on a seperate set of rims. The other reason he has not slicked the car is because he is still running the stock 8.8" rear end! The car is easily a 10 second car with traction. One of his next mods will be a Viper 6 speed.
Nunus:
I'm starting to get a feel for how to launch the car with the 4 speed. Of course my technique will have to change with the upcoming 4.10 rear end and 28x11.5x15 ET Streets. I'm shooting for high 11s, I won't be satisfied until this happens :).
Mike:
I can't wait to get the tires and the rear end...it should feel like a totally different car with traction and some lower gears out back. I was told that with the 4.10s and a 28" tall slick, the car will ET like crazy.
tworottiedogs:
I ended up with the L88 hood from Eckler's. The air cleaner lid is tight against the hood with the Strip Dominator intake and a drop base air cleaner. I take the air cleaner off whenever I run it down at the track.
gkull:
No, I don't have a line lock. I'm worried about launching the car too hard. I'm getting pretty good at giving the clutch a little slip while launching.

bence,
Nice pics and good work at the track. I know a pain getting a big block hooked up can be with a manual, but it's sure fun. I'm interested to hear how the new tires work, because I just replaced my wheels and have the stock steel ones available for some drag only tires. Keep up posted.
