A 12 bolt or modified dana 60 is really the only way to go if you want a 650+ HP capable IRS.
Center section here is about $2400 http://dynatrac.com/products/pro60irs/pro60irs.html
Make it work.

Alan,
Your first set of gears were Yukons. Or they were supposed to be. After learning about the dealings of that particular company that sold the gears I'm not positive about them even being Yukon.
Richmond gears are hard to set up. Which is why many people complained about them being noisy. I have found problems with every brand of gears. Every once in a while you just get a bad set.
One problem I'm seeing more and more of is cap stretch. Roger3 was the most obvious. Two distinct wear patterns. One from street driving, one from racing. The cap was stretching so much the pinion was riding up on the ring gear until it finally sheared the teeth off. No fault of the gears.
One common assumption is the cap is properly holding the bearing race in place with the proper preload. So common an assumption that no one ever checks it. Every diff I tear down the left side cap is
stretched and does not hold the race in place. The left side cap always needs to be re-fitted. Add to this 40 years of flexing every time you nail the gas. Metal fatigue is starting to be an issue.

Have been doing extensive testing on the new cap you made, along with your rebuild. Over 150 11.6 sec passes this season, so far so good. Not sure which ring and pinion you used in my differential but I'm liking it.

to use your words.. Way beyond the strength of a 10 bolt carrier... Would you happen to have pictures of a comparison of the 12 bolt to 10 bolt carrier and other parts comparisons between the two.

Just hate the gear change.... A lot... Figure it's less then $1k, so if it works... Cool... If not... Won't kill me... Danny and Chris can do a rearend in a day...
