Finished stripping the frame this weekend. Need some advice on....
how to remove the differential cross member - or is it even worth it? The bolts are out & the crossmember doesn't budge - even with the 5lb hammer :)The mounts seem fine otherwise I suppose the crossmember would be out already. Just wanted to remove it s I could clean the frame & paint without the crossmember in the way
Thanks
Thanks

WD40 or soapy water around rubber groments. wiggle at first then with a wooden block on cross mbr, smack it a few times with a HEAVY hammer. Just don't bend up the cross mbr. Remember, you have several years of "pressing" to un-press, also, there is a vacuum that is generated during this process. You also have to fight that as well. Make sure the Dif and everything else is already removed.

I've had good success with a long pry bar, 3 feet or greater.
Pry between frame and cross member and have someone give the cross member a good smack with a hammer while applying lots of pressure from the bar. :smash:

Thanks guys
I'll try that tonight. How's the re-assembly? Just as much of a PITA?

Thanks Guys
Let the bushings soak overnight with tom spray lube. A little tension with a 3' house wreckin' pry bar & a wack with a 5lb hammer :smash: (on a piece of 4x6 timber) & they popped free.
Thanks for the tip Honecker
