Intake for 454 with L88 hood
All, I have a torker 2 on my 454 and looking for a dual plane replacement that makes good power and flows well. I have the L88 hood on my 72. I see the Weiand stealth, anything else fit and perform well? I will be updating to aluminum heads and roller cam at the same time.

The Stealth and the Edelbrock Performer RPM are probably the 2 best choices. They should be pretty equal. I have a Stealth on my avatar car and RPM Air Gap on my '69 427. Hard to go wrong with either.

Yep the RPM Air gap will fit if you use an LT1/L88 drop base air cleaner with a 3" filter...it will be very close tho, make sure to cut the air cleaner stud down below the top of of the lid so it doesn't punch a hole in the hood.
This is about the best all around BBC intake you can run, atleast up to 700hp.

Two GM intakes are the L-78 and L-72.......naturally the real L-88 intake would be slightly better than those I stated......The 88`s are a open plenum otherwise they are basically the same

Any true high rise intake will require the L88 hood. If you have an L88 hood hopefully it has the air chamber so you can utilize the cold air induction. Then just get the L88 filter base (same as L36, which is what I use) & the rest of the set up to go with it and you're all set.

Here are the photos you requested. I hope they help. My base hold down piece is custom made by an old buddy. The L88 system uses a small lid with a circular piece of mesh between it and the carb. It costs a handful of ponies from what I've read but it also serves as a flame retardant in case your carb backfires. The foam ring you see seals against the bottom of the air box as the hood is lowered into place.
The K&N element, held within the box, was not a snug fit. I went to the hardware store and found some flexible foam insulation (made by 3M if memory serves) with adhesive on one side. It conformed easily and stuck well around the top and bottom of the element. I then trimmed the thickness so that the element still slid into the box but sealed firmly against the top and bottom.

Ding, ding, ding!
The OP should probably clarify precisely which Torker intake model is currently on his engine; #5061 (II / 2-O, modern oval), #2740 (2, vintage oval) or #2745 (2-R, vintage rectangle).

I will have to see which torker version I have. It was on the car when I bought it. With the torker 2 and about a 1" drop cleaner base I only have a few millimeters clearance between the hood. The air gap and stealth are a bit over 1" taller than the torker so don't see how either of those will fit even with a L88 drop base. My hood is aftermarket and not sure who makes it.

Well, neither the air gap or stealth will fit. Has anyone used the Chevrolet aluminum dual plane manifold?

IIRC a number of CF'ers run the rectangle port RPM AirGap beneath L88 style hoods, so I don't know why the AirGap 2-O version or other similar height intakes shouldn't work.

RPM AirGap for my rect port AFR heads fit with no issues under an L88 hood on a '69 BB car I had awhile back.

Ok everyone, I am scratching my head here trying to figure this out. I have a L88 style aftermarket hood, but it does not have the air chamber in it. Do you have to have the air chamber in the hood to give you the clearance for the Air Gap or Stealth intakes? With my hood and Torker 2 intake with a 2" drop air cleaner base and 3" tall filter, I have maybe 5mm of clearance between the air cleaner and hood. What gives?
The Air Gap and Stealth are both about 1.4" taller than my intake, no way I can run. The only intake I can find closer is the Chevrolet aluminum intake off the ZZ502, which is .6" taller than mine. Even so, I would have to go down to a 2.25" tall air filter to make it work. How about the original L88 intake manifolds? I know they are pricey but may have no choice to get rid of this Torker 2 manifold I have.

Rpm air gap, 2" drop base (LT1/L88), 3" filter
L88 hood..actually about 1/4"shorter then a real L88 hood, no chamber. About 3/16" clearance using Energy Suspension poly mounts.(stock replacements). Be sure to cut the choke tower off of the carb tho or else the carb will be choked with the air cleaner lid that close to the carb throat.
I ran it like that for a few years before I went to the 4" L88 hood and 4" filter.

I just don't understand why you have so little room.
My stock 427 with the stock manifold and drop base with 3" filter I have 1.25" with the stock hood.
The Torker isn't an inch taller then the stock manifold. Wondering if you have the wrong engine mounts.
