I have a 1977 4 speed. When I just got in to back it out of the garage I put it in reverse and nothing happen. The forward gears all seem to be ok. Any suggestions.

Possible linkage is disconnected and fallen off.

Not meaning to come across as a 'smart-a$$'...but are you sure you have it in reverse???

And if it is in reverse...and you begin to let off the clutch pedal..does the engine what to die???

What type of shifter???

Yes I'm sure it is in reverse. When I let the clutch out in reverse nothing happens. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th the car moves. The engine doesn't sound any different with the clutch in or out. Thanks for your reply.

DUB is right. Crawl under and check the linkage at the tranny and shifter first. It may be a simple solution.

Well I took my car in today to see what the problem was and the pin that holds the linkage in had broken. Pretty cheap fix.
