Camshaft recomendations needed
Hey guys I need a little help choosing a cam.
I have a 1986 454 that is going in my 1971 convertible. The motor has 36000 miles and runs great. I just want to do a mild build that has some decent sound but I don't know what cam to use. I have a set of high compression 206 heads (98 cc) and plan on getting a RPM Air Gap Intake. The car will not be a daily driver, but I need it to run well on pump gas.
Here is some info.
1986 454
206 heads (Compression should be around 9.8)
stock flat top pistons
RPM air gap intake
Hydraulic lifters
4 speed Muncie M 20
Hooker Headers
Probably a 750 carb
Thanks for any advise

Cam Questions
I am certainly not opposed to that. I just didn't know. Are they matched to the cam or how do you pick the right ones. I have worked on cars and trucks most of my life from time to time (grew up on a farm) but choosing what to use is over my head.
Thanks again

With the small chamber heads you need to be aware of valve to piston clearance. Hopefully your builder will know what will work with your pistons. The farther and longer the cam opens your valves, the more risk there is of contact. Using the clay method of checking for clearance is always a good idea. Good luck with the build. It should be a lot of fun when it's done.
