Default Squeal Like a Pig

I removed the A/C and the belts squeal real bad. I was told to replace the pulley to a single groove.

Is that true?
If so do I think I have the 'long' water pump
1978 Corvette

I think I need this...

Do you have the small crank yo water pump belt? I took my ac off and I needed to add the short bely, no more squeek.

Why do you think you have a long water pump? 1978 Corvette came with a water pump unique to Corvette with a 3/4" shaft. If you have the original water pump you will need a pulley designed to fit a Corvette. Make sure you check it out before you buy a pulley that doesn't fit and waste your money.

I removed the AC on my car. I still have the double pulley, with one belt driving the alt and water pump. I rev it to 5,800 with no squealing. Make sure your pulleys are aligned and the belt is tight.
