Shift Fork (1-2) for a 1973 Muncie M-21 CR 4-speed
Folks,
My tranny won't go into second gear at all - either at rest with the engine off, or with the engine running. It is a solid stop when I try to get second. I checked the linkage and temporarily adjusted it out to get more throw into second. No luck. I set the linkage back. I get no grinding noises, etc. from 1,3,4 or Reverse - which all work fine. I have not yet checked for metal in the oil - to rule out a damaged second gear itself - but I have been told that perhaps someone bang-shifted this tranny (speed-shift, without using clutch, etc...) and bent the fork. Sound reasonable? If so, what's the best way to get another fork? I know that I can remove the sideplate with the tranny still in the car and not have to deal with a full-blown removal. I am willing to try this and then pull it anyway if the current fork ends up being fine.
Thanks!
