Any Using BTO 700R4 with TKO500 or 600 transmission?
I purchased a 700R4 bow tie overdrives cross member and upon checking fitment, found the bar looks like it will interfere with the tail shaft. My transmission is not mounted in the car so it is possible the installed angles will allow it to clear. May need to grind a little off the tail housing to allow it to clear. Anyone have this issue?

The newer version, the bar goes straight across, no dog leg, and the mount bracket is longer. The kicker is the full diameter of the bar rides on top of the bracket..... when I place the bar up against the bottom of the mount, the tail shaft hits the bar. I don't think they took into consideration the TKO when they redesigned the bar (why would they).....wish I knew that before I bought it. It tell ya, you cant count on anything anymore. This brings back memories of my first build on the car where I quickly learned nothing really fits out of the box. BTO says it will fit but I am guessing they are basing that on the success of the older design with the TKO. The G-force design looks like it should work. Once again trying to save a couple of bucks bit me in the a$$.
The 10% restock fee and the insanely high UPS shipping fees, almost doesn't make it worth retuning..... I wonder how long the new design has been out there.

Yes, I am using exactly that. My '76 had a 700R4 when I purchased it, and I fitted a Bowtie overdrive's crossmember.
I then swapped to TKO-600 and retained the crossmember.
BUT... I notched the tube to allow the TKO to sit at the correct angle and not foul the tunnel.
You can see the gussets added to maintain strength.
I carried out scientific stuctural integrity testing by sitting the two ends on a couple of logs and jumping up and down on the middle
I also needed to make a spacer to lift the rear mount by about 1/2" to clear the crossmember notch.
I have a dim memory of maybe clearancing the transmission too, but nothing excessive.
It's been in (and out of) the car for about 8 years now. No issues at all.

I made my own 20 years ago. But this is a modified stock idea also.

Does the 700R4 really clear it?
I also have a personal dislike of automatic gearboxes, so the TKO was swapped in as soon as finances allowed.

Where are you guys getting your TKOs from? FWIW, mine looks like it was modified for better clearance at the tailshaft. The provisions for a torque arm are missing, etc.
I must say I don't know how a GM TKO straight from Tremec looks.

If you compare to the picture of my transmission, the tailshaft has nothing hanging lower than the tranny mount, or even at the same height vs the picture of the transmission I showed.

Sure - if you look at my post earlier, I am not using that particular transmission. That's the stock photo from Tremec's web site.

Sharkracer is correct. The "Corvette" version of the TKO has an alteration made to the tailshaft/housing. I can't remember what the mounting point is called on the transmission, but for the 'vette it is milled off. IF you are using a "standard" TKO it will have that provision that needs to be removed to clear.
I'm pretty sure it can be ground / cut off without going through the case as long as you are careful.
