2022 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
Phoenix
I can't speak for Nevada being a dust bowl, but I moved to Arizona when I changed jobs back in 84. I can honestly say that the Phoenix area would not be classified as a dust bowl as you put it as it is quite green here. I left Syracuse, NY and I am quite happy not having to contend with the snow and ridiculously cold temperatures. I'll take my "dust bowl" any day over wherever it is that you call home.

George, 14.7 mpg is pretty good actually, especially for your combo.
I average 9-10 mpg in town driving easy.. About 11 mpg highway at 70.. Best ever was 12.5 mpg highway running 65mph.
Ironically, my z06 with fuel injection and OD tranny doesn't any better in town and only 1-2 mpg better on the highway.
But yeah, I'll have my Vette out sunday.. Sunny and 80* here..

My professionally done 830 CFM Demon carb with down leg boosters only has MJ75 primary jets and my timing is 18 initial and the dials set to 15 degrees advance at 3200 for a 33 degree total. The vac advance dial is set to 10 degrees at 14 inches of vacuum. I have the Crane digital Multi spark HS6R or some number like that and my Platinum plugs are always light tan showing pretty lean.
I've been using Maxjets for many years. Holley jet sizes are poor in comparison

Still driving here on Cape Cod. No snow here yet.
I do have a C6 Z06 and it gets 27 mpg on the highway and about 16 around town. That's if you keep your foot out of it. Mine is bone stock except for exhaust.

It's got it's share of dings, including a cracked windshield that needs fixed. I built it to drive so I guess I can't complain too much.

I have seen 28 mpg for short highway stints if I keep the RPM's down and the speed around 65-70. Kind of hard to do People don't realize how light these Z06's are. Once you get into 6th gear the motor is just loafing along. My DIC usually indicates about 22 mpg average for combined driving. Great cars. Stupid fast and fuel efficient

Las Vegas here, we are probably as close to literally being a dust bowl as it gets. Dusty desert valley.
After reading this thread I think I'll take my Vette out for a spin just because I can! There aren't very many twisty roads here, this area is better for driving fast, which my 4-speed / 3.36 combo doesn't like.

That's right.. My Z06 is a 402" motor with an F1R blower spinning all the time.. Takes a good bit of power to spin it, even with all 3 blow off valves open... Probably the equivalent of turning 3 AC compressors or more when at light cruise.. Plus it's speed density tuned with 104lb injectors so...it's not as efficient as a stock Z06 would be with a mass air sensor tune.
Lastly, it's been converted to a 4l60e auto trans with a big converter(although it locks on the highway) so that eats some mpg also. The car is pretty heavy as well at 3660lbs with me in it so...it's way heavier then a stock z.
It's fun to drive and fairly comfortable/reliable... But I still enjoy the 71' more.
