C3 5-Speed Conversion. Does Stock Shifter Look & Feel Like Original in the Console?
'71 350/270, 4-speed, w/120K original miles.
Toying with the idea of doing a 5-speed conversion.
Exactly, how much irreversible cutting needs to be done?
Once completed, will the original shifter look stock & feel right at home, or do the console & interior pieces need to be modified?
Any disadvantages to this mod?
Thanks

If you get the right trans (TKO with an offset shifter, Richmond 5, Richmond 6) they will fit with no cutting and look fairly correct.
They will feel different from a Muncie, they aren't Muncies.
Here's my 78 with a TKO 600:
And here's a bone stock pace car with a 4-speed (and the cloth/leather seats )
Looks like stock is just a hair taller than mine.

Even if you put in a trans that needs mods, it can be made to look correct. Here's a home made T5 shifter made to come up in the console and look stock. Car was an auto, some material had to be removed, but it wasn't that bad at all, shifts smooth.
